Life Membership Guidelines

Alliance Française de Geelong Life Membership is the highest distinction the Alliance Française de Geelong can bestow and should only be conferred in exceptional cases.

AFdG Life Membership is awarded to acknowledge the substantial and outstanding contributions an individual has made to the ongoing success and viability of the Alliance Française de Geelong.

Appointment as an AFdG Life Member is open to any individual who has made a significant contribution to the Alliance Française de Geelong. Current or past AFdG Members and, in exceptional circumstances, non-members are eligible for nomination.

An AFdG Life Membership appointment is to be made by resolution of the Executive Committee and confirmation at a Committee Meeting.

Recommendations for elevation to AFdG Life Membership status would be presented to AFdG Members at the Annual General Meeting.

AFdG Life Members are not required to hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and membership fees and retain all membership rights and privileges as though they had paid the membership fees.

Life Member Policy & Nomination

Any financial AFdG Member can nominate an individual, current or past AFdG Members and, in exceptional circumstances, non-members for AFdG Life Membership. A nomination must be submitted to the Alliance Française de Geelong Executive Committee for consideration.

Nominations must be submitted in writing and received by the Executive Committee by 1 September each year.

The Executive Committee is to consider the merit of the nomination and vote on the nomination and, if yes, the Executive Committee then takes that nomination to the next General Committee Meeting for a final vote.

The General Committee shall vote and a minimum of two-thirds must vote in favour for the nomination to be successful.

Acknowledgement of elevation of an individual to AFdG Life Membership status will then be made at the Annual General Meeting.

  • The nominee has shown by their commitment and actions their willingness to contribute to the advancement of the Alliance in whatever capacity or level their contribution is made.
  • Eligibility does not necessarily translate directly to a successful nomination as an assessment must be undertaken.
  • Weight will be given to the specific level of service to the Alliance and the detail will be reviewed by the Executive in response to a nomination and in accord with the above criteria.
